Kyiv, the 3rd of April 2009, 19.00 - Collection Gallery presents new eclectic project of the classic of Ukrainian post-modernism Olexandr Roitburd "Pinacotheca".

Using the names of well-known works, Olexandr Roitburd starts a post-modernistic game. He transforms the classical works, providing them a new sense. Collection Gallery exclusively presents absolutely new works of Olexandr Roitburd, created in 2008 - beginning of 2009. Names of the works send us to the classic works like "Moonlit Night on the Dnieper" of Kuindzhi or "Vision of the Youth Bartolomew" of Mykhailo Nesterov. The game of the difficult allusions like with Rembrandt's picture" The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp" or mocking with Sergiy Gerasimow's picture "Partizan's mother".

One of the "firma" accents of Olexandr Roitburd is the variety of layers of images and plots, according to the words of art-critic Alisa Lozhkina, witnesses about some nostalgia after the meaningless but very poetic names of the old works, on the same time putting a problem of the connection between the name and the content of a work. Today the artist comes back to the motives of his early works, combining them with later motives, creates the present stage of his artistic development, the neo-classicism of Olexandr Roitburd. In some of his works one can recognize the features of his friends, heroes of the works of his previous periods, accenting on the conditionality of the names and plots.

Olexandr Roitburd, the artist: "Today I'm mocking, mixing the plots, different motives of the creation. I'm interested in the game with classic, proved by the time, plots, when during the change of accents they completely change their meaning and the angle of looking at the eternal plots. Suddenly I realized the rightness of such approach, the result of which is a harmonic "salad".

Daryna Zholdak, the director of Collection Gallery: "2009 we started with a monumental project-retrospective "2?3. Museum format". Today we open the new project of Olexandr Roitburd "Pinacotheca", where every single work is an untold story. It is important for us to present the successful co-operation with the author in future. And if everything is alright, in May-June we will for the first time hear the name of the classic on the June auction Sotheby's in London. " Brought up in the traditions of French modernists, Olexandr Roitburd is one of those who went down to history as one of the most powerful experimentalists in the sphere of the art language and those who created Ukrainian trans-avant-garde in the 90s . At that time he organized a couple of art projects. The most famous of them are "The Academy of Cold" and "Psychedelic invasion of battleship "Potemkin " into the tautological hallucinosis of Sergey Eisenstein", that belongs to the collection of Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. His works are also presented in the museum DUMA (USA), in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) and in galleries of Slovenia etc. Developing the curator movement in Ukraine (these are the first projects of "Vidrodzhennya" ("Renaissance") fond and opening of the first two modern galleries (Contemporary Arts Center in Odessa and later the Guelman Gallery in Kyiv) he was the moderator and the main communicator between Kyiv, Moscow and Odessa.
