The first work of art: Unique water-colours by Yuriy Ivanchenko

26 water-colours made by Yuriy Ivanchenko combine the main stages of the painter’s creative work from 1997 to 2005. Despite the fact that Ivanchenko is recognized in the West for a long time, these works have never been exhibited before, so Kyiv residents have the opportunity to be the first who will see them.
“The first work of art” is just a third personal exhibition. The first one was organized by Oleg Bayshev in a Moscow gallery “MARC” in 1994. From that period until today Y. Ivanchenko has collaborated with the most authoritative London gallery “Colnaghi” (www.colnaghi.co.uk). It is one of the first galleries in Europe (founded in 1760), placed in the heart of the London art market on the Old Bond street, 15.
Despite its specialization, the art of the masters of the XV-XIX centuries (Rafael, Rubens, Tintoretto and others), works of Y. Ivanchenko which have a unique collection value were repeatedly chosen for the personal exhibitions. The exhibitions were a triumphal success, with all works being totally sold during the exhbition’s first days. Among clients of the gallery are the largest world museums, for which Colnaghi forms the collections. That is why we are extremely pleased that Ivanchenko agreed to exhibit his woks in our gallery.

Yurij Ivanchenko is interesting to us because of his deep perception of the world and unique technique. His water-colours are provided with an unusual illusion of richness and concentration of reality, the distinguishing feature of which is very unusual for this “transparent” technique. It is this trait which draws his works nearer to oil painting, and is why Ivanchenko is recognized in a moment among the other modern painters.

It takes several months to complete each water-colour. At the time of laborious task are the depth and sense revealed. It is very difficult, thorough and intricate work with a combination of philosophical inspiration and self-absorption. The artist does not use whitening , confirming the craftsmanship of the creator and thereby increasing the value of each water-colour.
Ivanchenko is of Ukrainian origin. His ancestors were deported to Siberia. That is why there is something symbolic in this returning to the fatherland. Our gallery has a goal to return painters to Ukraine and to discover new Ukrainian masters.

For the exhibition we have published a catalogue of the works made by Yurij Ivanchenko, to which we request your attention.
