KSENIA GNYLYTSKA / OPEN AIR

Searching for the lost woods Ksenia Gnylytska creates vivid "phyto-wallpapers"
Kyiv, 29th of January 2009, 19.00 - Collection Gallery presents a personal project of the young Ukrainian artist Ksenia Gnylyltska "Open Air"
Why does one of the most interesting modern artists 25-year old Ksenia Gnylytska choose the traditional genre "landscape" for her new series of 10 art works? Unlike the authors of trite landscapes a-la "golden autumn" from Andriivskii uzviz, Ksenia Gnylytska addresses the contemporary audience. She intensifies the decorativeness of the landscape on purpose to draw our attention to the things we lose everyday or have already completely lost.
Ksenia addresses the structure of camouflage picture, generalizes the forms, but works with intensive, a little bit synthetic colors. Indications of location and time are absent. We don't have to know, is it the real Ukrainian landscape or a Munich forest. Charmed by the banal beauty, we dive into the psychedelic-ecological feelings of the artist.
Ksenia Gnylytska represents the new generation of the artists. She is an active participant of the group "R.E.P.". Every "mature" artist can envy the number of personal and collective exhibitions of the 25-year old author. Recently the artist returned after the training by one of the world's most well-known artists Neo Rauch. At the same time with the eventful exhibition practice as a part of "R.E.P." group, Ksenia personally was noticed on the important art-forums, like biennale in Prague and took part in the famous French project "Art of 20-year old ones", for which 20 the most interesting artists from the whole world were chosen.
Daryna Zholdak, the director of the gallery: "It was very interesting for us to work with the youngest generation of the contemporary artists, which Ksenia successfully represents. In her works the traditional landscape gets a lot of development. She finds a modern audience and asks actual questions, confining herself to decorative methods. I know that in the nearest future Ksenia plans to continue the ecological thematic as a part of the group "R.E.P.". Being a responsible artist, she prepares a line of design objects, made from secondary raw materials".
Ksenia Gnylytska, the author of the exposition: "in this project I consider a landscape as a philosophical story. I was inspired by the eastern and contemporary graphics, camouflage abstractions of Andy Warhol, the gothic world of Caspar David Friedrich. New romanticism. The ideal space of sheer woods, "phyto-wallpapers ". Special perception of the nature to music during an open air party. Ecology through the poetry of art".
Natalya Filonenko, art critic: "Why does the artist mask the Ukrainian landscape, delicately covering it with pop-art camouflage? It makes her pictures free of every geo-political registration. In her works the ideas of mass-depersonalization are combined with the eastern idea of observant-meditative perception of the world. Ksenia explores the illusory definition "identity", simultaneously trying on the western and eastern mentalities. Her generation lives or wants to live in that ideal world where the information washes out all of the boundaries and the ideas are flying in the air and in the world net".
The official opening of the exhibition will take place at the 19.00 in Collection Gallery at the address: vyl. Pankivska, 8. The exhibition will last until the 26th of February. Collection Gallery is opened every day except Monday, from 11.00 till 19.00.
